A report in a Sydney newspaper saying Catholic school teachers are considering strike action over a proposed Enterprise Agreement from Catholic employers is premature and does not do justice to the consultation process says Executive Director of Schools, Greg Whitby. 'I trust our teachers and support staff to discern what is good for learning and teaching outcomes and we are keeping our staff informed throughout the process of consultation,' said Greg.
'As we have informed our staff, the new Enterprise Agreement is in the proposal stage managed by the Catholic Commission for Employment Relations on behalf of 11 Dioceses across New South Wales and ACT.
'This is the beginning of a conversation that will continue in the coming weeks and our teachers and staff will have ongoing opportunities to provide input, ideas and viewpoints,' he said. 'We seek their active involvement in finding a new agreement that both supports the profession and gives the best outcome for the students in their care.'
'We support the introduction of a new enterprise agreement because it aligns well with our focus in the Diocese of Parramatta by reducing distractions to the core work of learning and teaching, allowing greater flexibility in the way we want to work, and 'going deeper' on the things that we know make the greatest difference to improving learning to each student,' said Greg.
