Last week we focused on number busting using the three levels surface, deep and transfer. We made the success criteria as a full grade using the brainstorming chart and decided which were surface skills, deep skills and then transfer. We used the success criteria to guide us when we were number busting. This really helped us to understand how to show what we know and ways we can bust different numbers.
A few different ideas we discussed were that in Year 3 we now DO NOT use repeated addition or simple patterns but we do use brackets accurately to show order of operations. In number busting we can calculate fractions and decimals. Sometimes we get so busy showing that we have surface skills that we forget to show how we connect our ideas at the deep level. Our success criteria really helped us to number bust better than we have before.
